Sequester
REHABILITATE REINVIGORATE EMPOWER
Increasing green and blue cover in landscapes is a powerful tool for capturing and retaining carbon- an underexplored solution in urban and peri-urban settings of the developing world.
Engaging communities in this process is essential to ensure the sustainable care and stewardship of these rehabilitated spaces.
At Sequester, we combine environmental restoration with community empowerment, breathing new life into neglected landscapes and transforming them into lush, green havens. Our mission is to create cool, verdant spaces that provide relief from heat, foster community connections, and combat urban heat islands.
We are powered by global insights and standards, and ensure that our rehabilitation methods reflect the needs of the ecosystem.
We empower all cadres of stakeholders, from community members to businesses- to individuals looking to build local green covers for their localities- through initiatives ranging from capacity building , to procurement, advisory to long term implementation of greening initiatives!
Join us in cultivating vibrant areas where communities can gather, bond, and thrive, contributing to a greener, healthier planet.
We rehabilitate neglected landscapes - codesigning with communities that call them home
Following restoration, we provide technology assisted, culturally sensitive accountability mechanisms that are integrated within local development and sustainability plans
Co-design and relationship building
We tap into community wisdom to understand what it means for a commmunity to truly thrive and unlock the potential for connection, activity, play and comfort in the spaces they inhabit.
We do this through cultivating deep relationships with residents, identifying representatives and connecting with the community through them. These leaders then go on to become nodal officers for the community
Implementation and long-term support
The co-design process ensures our programs align with local clean-up and rehabilitation plans, integrating seamlessly with existing mechanisms for soil treatment, planting carefully selected species, and maintaining and disposing of waste.
These revitalized spaces become community hubs where residents can learn about and participate in ongoing stewardship efforts. We build local capacity in maintenance, repair, and monitoring, establishing robust communication channels between community liaisons, government officers, and waste disposal representatives.
Economic Initiatives to aid sustainability
We also assist communities in setting up sustainable economic activities that generate revenue for maintenance and improvements in public utilities. Initiatives may include vocational training classes, peer education clinics, health camps, local food courts, and other community-driven priorities.
After rehabilitation, we provide ongoing support to ensure these activities continue and that the green spaces are well-maintained.

Harsh Mehta
Lead, Technology & Product
Harsh is the architect of Sequester's digital ecosystem, building the technology that connects our communities directly to our mission. A full-stack product engineer, he has proven experience leading the entire development lifecycle of mobile applications for major government bodies, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. His expertise in Flutter, Firebase, and cloud platforms is instrumental in creating the tools that power our on-the-ground operations—from citizen-led site nomination to real-time impact tracking. Harsh ensures that every physical intervention is supported by a robust, scalable, and user-centric digital infrastructure.
Our Team
Navya Mishra
Director, Research, Partnerships and Impact
Navya founded Sequester to create a tangible, on-the-ground solution to one of the most critical public health challenges of our time. A life-course epidemiologist with deep expertise in climate and health, she identified the urgent need to build environmental resilience for biologically vulnerable populations. Her pioneering research and development of advanced AI-driven models form the scientific backbone of Sequester's mission. Navya translates complex data into community-centric interventions that transform urban landscapes into vital public health infrastructure, positioning Sequester at the forefront of ecological restoration and climate adaptation.
Sujata M
Lead, Community Capacity & Ecology
Sujata translates Sequester's scientific mission into practical, community-led action. A botanist specializing in soil bioremediation and rapid afforestation, she is an expert in restoring the ecological health of degraded landscapes using advanced methods like the Miyawaki technique. At Sequester, she architects our capacity-building programs, using adult learning principles to empower community members with the skills to become long-term stewards of their revitalized green spaces. Sujata's work is critical to our model, ensuring that every project not only restores the environment but also builds lasting social resilience and ecological expertise within the communities we serve.
Dipti Singhania
Lead, Policy & Impact Strategy
Dipti is the strategic link between Sequester's local interventions and national systems-level change. As a public policy professional with extensive experience at UNICEF and in advising key government bodies like NITI Aayog, she specializes in using data to drive evidence-based policy. She brings advanced expertise in economics, data science, and machine learning to design robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks for Sequester. Dipti's role is to measure the multi-faceted impact of our work—from heat mitigation to community well-being—and translate these findings into scalable models that can inform and influence public policy across India.
Integration with Government Priorities
We align our efforts with local government priorities, tailoring our initiatives to meet specific regional needs. By collaborating closely with local governments, we build awareness and capacity for green cover improvements.
Together with government stakeholders and local communities, we develop and implement the most suitable rehabilitation models. The entire process, from clean-up to rehabilitation and beyond, is closely monitored and tracked to ensure success.
We document these projects as case studies to guide future administrators and facilitate the replication of successful models.
